Exterior Paint Removal in Austin, TX
Peeling, faded, or failing exterior paint won’t fix itself — and a fresh coat over it won’t last. We strip old paint and coatings down to a clean, sound surface, ready to refinish.
Why Exterior Paint Fails in Central Texas
Austin’s climate is hard on exterior finishes. Intense UV, big temperature swings, and humidity all work against paint over time. Sooner or later it cracks, peels, blisters, or chalks — and once a coating starts to fail, the only real fix is to take it back to a clean surface before anything new goes on.
A few common failures we strip:
Peeling and flaking happens when paint loses its bond to the surface, usually from moisture, poor prep on the last job, or simple age. Painting over it just traps the failure underneath.
Alligatoring and cracking is the cracked, scaly pattern you see on old layered paint. It can’t be sanded smooth by hand on a whole house — it has to come off.
Putting fresh paint over a failing coat is the single most common reason a paint job doesn’t last. Removing the old coating first is what makes the next one hold.
What We Remove
- Peeling and flaking exterior paint
- Cracked and alligatored layered coatings
- Old stain and sealer on wood siding
- Failing paint on trim, fascia, and soffits
- Coatings on brick, stucco, and masonry
- Paint and primer on metal surfaces
- Lead-era and multi-decade layered paint
- Overspray and misapplied coatings
What we don’t fix: siding or trim that’s already rotted, cracked, or structurally damaged (you’ll need a repair specialist for that), or discoloration that has penetrated into the material itself.
Why the Right Removal Method Matters
You have other options for getting old paint off. Most are slow, messy, or damaging.
Hand scraping and sanding is the standard DIY approach. It works on small areas but is brutally slow on a full exterior, and aggressive sanding gouges wood grain and rounds off trim detail.
Harsh chemical strippers dissolve paint but they’re messy, slow to neutralize, and can stain brick and masonry or damage trim. The runoff is also hard on landscaping.
Pressure washing alone rarely removes bonded paint — and at high pressure it can drive water behind the coating and into the substrate, causing more problems than it solves.
Open sandblasting takes paint off but it also chews up wood, mortar, and soft masonry. Anyone offering to sandblast your siding should be avoided.
Surface-matched media blasting and controlled stripping is what we use. We choose fine, surface-safe media and low pressure tuned to the material — hard enough to lift the coating, gentle enough to leave the surface beneath it clean and intact. No gouging, no staining, no water driven behind the paint.

Concerns We Hear Often
Will removal damage the surface underneath?
No. We match the method and the pressure to the material and work at the gentlest effective setting, so the wood, brick, or metal comes through clean and intact.
Will the paint problem come back?
Removing the old coating gives the next finish a clean, sound surface to bond to. How long that finish lasts comes down to the product and the prep behind it — but starting clean is what makes it hold.
Can you just prep it for my painter?
Yes. We can strip and leave the surface bare and ready, prepped exactly the way your painter or finisher needs it.
How do I know if I need removal or replacement?
If the surface is rotted, cracked, or structurally damaged, no amount of stripping will fix it. Send us a photo and we’ll tell you which situation you’re in.
Do you offer any guarantee?
Yes. If you’re not satisfied with the result, we’ll come back and address it. We don’t ask for payment until you’ve inspected the work and signed off. We accept all major credit cards and cash.
